"Endless hot water" is true and it's the wrong thing to focus on. A tankless heater will run all day without exhausting — but only at a rate it can actually deliver.
And that rate is not a fixed property of the unit.
Here's what catches people out. The same heater delivers noticeably less hot water in January than in July, because the colder the water arriving, the more work the unit has to do to reach your set temperature — and there's a ceiling on how much work it can do per minute.
So the honest specification isn't "how big?" It's how many fixtures do you want running simultaneously, at what temperature, on the coldest day of your year.
Get that number right and a tankless system is superb. Get it wrong and you've bought a unit that's perfectly adequate in summer and disappointing exactly when hot water matters most.

Every tankless specification comes down to a pair of figures. Neither is on the box.
Measured in gallons or litres per minute, and it's cumulative. A shower running while a kitchen tap is used and a washing machine fills is three demands at the same moment, and the unit has to serve their combined total.
Your desired output temperature minus the temperature of the water arriving at the property. This is the figure that changes seasonally, and the one most commonly ignored.
Any unit can deliver a high flow with a small temperature rise, or a modest flow with a large one. It cannot do both. Every manufacturer's rating is a curve, not a single number — and a headline flow figure is always quoted at a rise that flatters it.
